PHILADELPHIA, PA – Officials announced today that Philadelphia’s premier Mixed Martial Arts event MATRIX FIGHTS (www.MatrixFights.com/@MatrixFights) is set to return on Friday, December 5, 2014 with a stacked card to be headlined by a special catchweight dream match between Matrix and Bellator MMA veterans JESUS “CHAVO” MARTINEZ and LEVON “DA MAYNMAN” MAYNARD.
“I think that the one thing Matrix has always focused on was quality over quantity. We never wanted to be known as a promotion that just did shows to fill out a calendar,” said Matrix Fights CEO Jimmy Binns Jr. (@JimmyBinnsJr). “We’ve always gone the extra mile to make our promotions feel like ‘events’ as opposed to just ‘shows.’ We have a slate of fights that compelled all of us to get back together and finally promote the next installment of Matrix.”
In addition to its return to active promotions, Matrix has announced that it will now be holding its events at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory in Northeast Philadelphia, located conveniently on Route 1/Roosevelt Boulevard.
Martinez, 9-5, a lifelong Philadelphia resident, is coming off a decision win at Bellator 118 against Ryan Contaldi.
“There’s been a lot of manufactured hype in the media recently surrounding a lot of main events other promotions are pushing right now,” remarked Martinez. “You’re not going to see any shoving or mean mugging between me and LeVon. I consider him a friend and we have a mutual respect for one another. But what you are going to see though is simply the Philly MMA fight of the year.”
Meanwhile, Maynard (@LeVonMaynard), 12-10, is also no stranger to big shows, having fought the likes of Rick Hawn and Lyman Good while under their promotional banner.
